Migrates your files after you install an updated release of your application.
When selecting files to migrate, you can select files outside of or within the Vault:
- Specific files.
- All files in a directory including subfolders.
- All files that an assembly references
- All files in an Autodesk Inventor project.
You can add files from a remote server or remote workstation. Use a unique UNC path, such as \\server_name\our_folders. Avoid using different drive mappings or different UNC paths to the same file.
If you select a project that has a style library, the migration process removes any unused styles.
Tips
- Run the Purge task on your data to clean out the styles that did not match the style library.
- You can migrate drawing files in a defer-update state. Set this option manually in the Drawing Settings dialog box to allow updates to continue.
- In the migration options, Total Rebuild increases the performance of the Inventor application.
- To benefit fully from memory saving mode, migrate all of your R10 and earlier files using Task Scheduler.
Tips for migrating files
- Back up all Autodesk Inventor files before you migrate them. Maintain the original directory structure in your backup so that you can restore files if necessary.
-
If you migrate specific files, follow this migration order, since assemblies depend on parts, and drawings can depend on both parts and assemblies:
- Parts
- Subassemblies
- Assemblies
- Presentations
- Drawings
- The migration skips certain types of files:
- Read-only.
- Previously migrated.
- Built in non production versions of your application, such as in a Beta version.
- Files with missing references.
- Before you run a migration task, authorize your Inventor application on your system.
