Include an animated result in a report

Include an animation of the Fill time result in the report.

There are two places where you can set animation preferences. One allows you to set animation display preferences for all animations, and the second allows you to change the animation settings for a specific result.

  1. Select Fill time from the Study Tasks pane.
  2. Click Results, Home tab (Home tab > Results panel > Results) to open the Results tab.
  3. Click Plot Properties, Results tab (Results tab > Results panel > Plot Properties). The Plot properties dialog appears.
  4. Select the Methods tab and select Contour.
  5. Select the Animation tab and alter the Number of frames text box to 30 and click OK. The number of frames selected will determine the detail used when animating the Fill time result.
  6. Click , and then select Options.
  7. Select the Reports tab.
  8. In the Animation settings box select the Fast radio button and ensure the Loop check box is selected. Click OK. This setting determines how long each frame of the animation is displayed before the next frame is displayed. The Loop option restarts the animation automatically when the end of the result is reached.
  9. Click Report, Home tab (Home tab > Reporting panel > Reports) to open the Reports tab.
  10. Click Edit Report, Reports tab (Reports tab > Reports panel > Edit Report).

If there is more than one report in this project, the Select A Project Item dialog appears. Select the tutorial report you want to work with and click OK.

The Report Generation Wizard dialog is displayed.

  11. Click Next until the Report Layout page appears.
  12. Select the Fill time result from the Report items list. The Item details box becomes active.
  13. Select the Animation check box and click Generate.
  14. View the report to see the Fill time result animation. In the Results section of the Study Tasks pane, the following entries have been added:
image included in report Report 1: Fill time
This represents the image of the Fill time that appears in the report.
animation included in report Report 1: Fill time
This represents the animated result that appears in the report.
  15. Select the Plastic flow result and click Plot Properties, Results tab (Results tab > Results panel > Plot Properties).
  16. Select the Animation tab and enter 10 in the Number of frames textbox and click OK.
  17. Click Edit Report, Reports tab (Reports tab > Reports panel > Edit Report) and move to the Data Selection page.
  18. Add Plastic flow to the Selected data list and click Next.
  19. Move the Plastic flow result so that it is directly below the Fill time result.
  20. With the Plastic flow result selected, select the Animation checkbox and generate the report. The Plastic flow result completes faster than the Fill time result because there are less frames to animate.
  21. You will now alter the Animation settings and adjust the animation of the results in the report. Click > Options, and then select, and open the Reports tab.
  22. Alter the Animation settings to Slow and click OK.
  23. Click Edit Report, Reports tab (Reports tab > Reports panel > Edit Report) and move to the Data Selection page. To load the new settings into the report, the existing animation will first be deleted.
  24. Select cellphone_study:Plastic flow from the Selected data list and click Remove.
  25. Select Plastic flow from the Available data list and click Add.
  26. Click Next.
  27. Select cellphone_study:Plastic flow from the Report items list and select the Animation check box.
  28. Re-order the list so that the Plastic flow result is just below the Fill time result.
  29. Click Generate to regenerate the report.
The body of the report is now complete. You can add other results as you require. For example:
  • If you performed a Pack analysis, you might want to report on the volumetric shrinkage as a measure of warpage caused by uneven shrinkage.
  • A Cool analysis result might be included to demonstrate hot spots on the part or the efficiency of the cooling channels.
