Rebar Cover

Rebar cover is defined by a series of instance parameters that control the internal offset of the rebar from the faces of the rebar host. When a rebar shape is placed within a host, it will expand to the cover references. Rebar that touches the cover reference will attach to that cover reference. Rebar cover parameters will affect the attached rebar and bars that are attached to those bars. Changing the cover settings will not offset other rebar that you have placed within the host.

To change the appearance of host cover

  1. Click View tab Graphics panel Visibility/Graphics.
  2. Click Object Styles.
  3. Click the Annotation Objects tab.
  4. Modify the Rebar Cover References category.

To allow stirrup and tie rebar to snap to the exterior of the rebar cover

Some code requirements measure cover to the main reinforcement instead of the clear distance to the first rebar element. For this requirement stirrup/tie rebar can attach to the exterior side of rebar cover reference. To achieve this, create a rebar shape family with the Exterior Face of Cover Reference parameter enabled.

  1. In the Project Browser, expand Families Structural Rebar Rebar Shape.
  2. Right-click a stirrup/tie rebar shape and select Edit from the drop-down.

    The Family Editor opens.

  3. Click Modify tab Properties panel Family Types.
  4. In the Rebar Shape Parameters dialog under the Construction section, select Exterior Face of Cover Reference as the Stirrup/Tie Attachment.
  5. Click OK and then save and close the family.
  6. The following view shows the default Interior Face of Cover Reference setting on the left and the Exterior Face of Cover Reference setting on the right.
