Output tab
The information on this page applies to the following analysis types except where indicated:
Mechanical Event Simulation (MES)
Static Stress with Nonlinear Material Models
MES Riks Analysis
The Output tab can be used to control what additional data is written when the analysis is performed. All the check boxes in the Results in Output File and Input Data in Output File sections will write the specified data to the text file except for the following:
- The Output Gaussian point data check box will output the results at the Gaussian points (integration points) nearest to the corner nodes. This is binary output which can be viewed in the Results environment. (Use the Results Options: Gaussian Points menu in the Results environment to show the Gaussian results.)
- Stress/strain at midside nodes (binary) If activated, the stress and strain at midside nodes will be output to the binary result files. These results can then be displayed in the Results environment. (Note that midside nodes are an option that can be activated for certain element types using the Element Definition dialog.)
For the results that are node-specific (displacement, velocity, acceleration), you can also select blocks of nodes for which the results will be output to a text file. This is done by activating the Output to file check box. You can define the starting and ending nodes of the block in the Printout Block of Nodes table.
Distorted Element Warnings: The log file can become very long and difficult to read if warnings about distorted elements occur. Use the drop-down Output Warning: distorted element to control how many warnings are printed. The warnings appear in the log file as Warning: distorted element X in part P, maintaining its integrity!.
- Print N Warnings and summary at each time step indicates that only the user-entered number of warnings will be shown for each time step. (Each time step consists of multiple iterations to converge.) After N of these warnings are printed, regardless of whether they occur in the first iteration, the last iteration, or any combination of iterations in between, no additional warnings are given for the time step. After the time step converges, the total number of distorted element warnings that occurred during the iterations for the current time step are given. Also, the counter is reset so that future time step may give up to N warnings.
- Print all warnings indicates to list every distorted element warning that occurs.
See also the page Setting Up and Performing the Analysis: Performing the Analysis: Performing A Nonlinear Analysis for details on the distorted element warning.
Tip: Additional output controls appear on the Output tab of the main Analysis Parameters dialog (

Model Setup

Output). These other output options control what results are written for the Results environment. See the page Setting Up and Performing the Analysis: Nonlinear: Analysis Parameters:
Controlling the Output Results for details.
