Material Model Table

The names of the material models entered in the material library do not necessarily agree with the names of the material models entered in the Element Definition dialog where the material model is assigned to the part. This table correlates the material models that are stored in a material library with the analysis type, element types, and material model for which they can be used. The entry (none) indicates that a material model does not need to be set in the Element Definition for the listed element types.

Note:
  • The library may contain more information than is necessary for a particular combination of analysis type, element type, and material model. For example, the Standard material model includes nonlinear properties such as yield strength and strain hardening modulus. These properties are only used in a nonlinear analysis with a material model that includes plasticity.
  • Likewise, the library may not contain all the input necessary for some combinations of analysis type, element type, and material model. Such input needs to be entered directly into the model. Therefore, always check that the properties are complete when applying a material to a part.
