- The file Crank.ach is provided in your tutorial models folder.
- Add a construction vertex at (-2.25, 2.125, 0) to guarantee that a node will be created at the center of the top surface of the knob.
- Mesh the model using an absolute mesh size of 0.05 inch.
- Add a beam perpendicular to the top face of the knob from the construction vertex and connect it to several points at the outer edge of the top surface of the knob.
Note: This last step is necessary because the brick elements comprising solid parts lack rotational degrees of freedom. Therefore, they are not capable of resisting an applied moment. Anything attached to a brick at a single node will behave as if it is a frictionless ball-joint connection. Beams support rotational loads but must be connected to multiple points of a brick part to transmit them.
