You can examine the details of an item through the Preview Pane or by examining the item's record.
View an Item Summary
- In the Item Master, select an item. The tabs for reviewing item information are displayed in the preview pane.
View General Item Information
- Select the General tab. The General tab summarizes information about the selected item, including:
- Item number
- Item category
- Item title
- Item description
- Units
- Lifecycle state
- Revision
- The last user to update the item
- The date the item was last updated
- Files associated with the item
- The item properties
- Use the revision slider to select any revision for the item or select a revision from the drop-down list.
- Right-click on an associated file and then select to view the file in another window to go to the vault folder where the associated file is stored.
View the Revision History of an Item
- In the Item Master, select an item. The tabs for reviewing item information are displayed in the preview pane.
- Select the Revision History tab.
The revisions of the item are listed. Each revision listed includes statistics such as the item name, the revision number, the lifecycle state, the item title, the item class, and units.
View a Bill of Materials for an Item

In the Item Master, select an item. The tabs for reviewing item information are displayed in the preview pane.
Note: To edit a Bill of Materials, you must open the item and edit the BOM in the Item dialog box.
- Select the Bill of Materials tab.
The Bill of Material for the selected item is listed.
- Select a method for displaying the BOM from the Structure list:
- Multi-Level - a hierarchical list
- First Level - the top level items
- Parts Only - items for parts only
- You can choose to view the BOM either by date or revision:
- View BOM by Revision: Select a revision from the revision drop-down. The date the revision was last used prior to being superceded by a newer revision is displayed in the date drop-down.
Note: Depending on the items current state, not all will be displayed. Items in the Obsolete state only display the latest revision.
- Latest: This represents the current BOM. There may be items in any state in the BOM.
- Prior Revisions: This represents past released BOMs.
- View by Date: Select a revision from the drop-down, the last date before a later revision was released is now displayed in the date drop-down.Change this date to reflect the released child item revisions for that specific date. The date selected must be on or after the date that the revision was released. The selected child revision BOM is displayed as of the selected date.
Note: Changes to the date drop-down do not affect the displayed BOM if the "Latest" is selected.
Note: You cannot edit information for previous revisions.
Items in the Obsolete state display the previous revisions and the latest.
- To export an item, right-click an item, and then select Export Items from the context menu.
View Where an Item Is Used
In the Item Master, select an item. The tabs for reviewing item information are displayed in the preview pane.
- Select the Where Used tab.
The parent items in the item master that reference the selected item are listed, as well as the number of parents related to the item.
- View by Revision: Select a revision from the revision drop-down.
Note: The revision drop down will display the following revisions. Depending on the items current state, not all will be displayed:
- Latest: This represents the current item in any state.
- Effective: The represents the currently effective item. All items are released and effective.
- Past Effective Revisions: This represents past effective items. The item's effectivity is superseded.
- Alternately, use the revision slider to select any revision for the item or select a revision from the drop-down list.
Note: You cannot edit information for previous revisions.
- To export an item, right-click an item, and then select Export Items from the context menu.
View the Change Orders Applied to an Item
- In the Item Master, select an item. The tabs for reviewing item information are displayed in the preview pane.
- Select the Change Order tab.
The change orders applied to the current item are listed. The change order summary for the item includes the ECO number, the current state of the change order, the title of the change order, and the due date for the change order.
View the Files Attached to an Item
- In the Item Master, select an item. The tabs for reviewing item information are displayed in the preview pane.
- Select the View tab.
- From the Show list, select which file types attached to the item to display:
- All - all attached files are listed
- Drawings - Autodesk Inventor .idw and .dwg files are listed
- Documents - only Microsoft Word files are listed
- CAD Files - only files from CAD applications are listed
- Other
- From the Attached Files list, select a file to view.
- If the selected file is a .dwf file or is a file with a .dwf attachment, the .dwf is displayed inside the View tab using Autodesk DWF Viewer. Click View in Window to view the file in a separate window.
- If the selected file does not have an associated .dwf file, the view is empty. Click Open with Viewer to view the file in an external application.
- When viewing a .dwf file, use the Autodesk DWF Viewer controls to zoom, pan, and print the .dwf image.
