In this tutorial, we will determine the displacement and the stress distribution of the support beam due to a uniformly applied, downward force acting on the middle portion of the top face. The top of the beam has already been split into three separate surfaces to confine the load to the intended portion of the span. 3D spring supports will be used instead of rigid constraints to prevent local stress exaggeration at the support areas.
The results of the first analysis will exceed the allowable displacement and von Mises stress. The support beam will then be modified, using Inventor Fusion, to increase the height of the beam by 60mm. A re-analysis of the beam will show that the displacement and stresses are within the target limits after modification.
