Pixel

A pixel (short for Picture Element) is a single point in a graphic image. Graphics monitors display pictures by dividing the screen into thousands (or millions) of pixels, arranged in rows and columns.

Renderings are also composed of pixels. For those portions of renderings that represent scene geometry, pixel color is based on the surface's material properties, and also on the way the scene is lit. Photometric renderings use physically based units to calculate these colors.
