To Create a Distant Light

Although distant lights can be useful for uniform lighting, they are not accurate and not recommended for use in photometric workflows or with blocks.

  1. Click Visualize tab Lights panel Lighting Units drop-down Generic Lighting Units. Find

    No lighting units are used and standard (generic) lighting is enabled.

  2. Click Visualize tab Lights panel Create Light drop-down Distant. Find
  3. Click in the drawing to specify a location for the light.
  4. Click to specify a direction.
  5. At the command prompt, enter n and enter a name. This name will appear in the properties and in the Lights in Model window.

    You can continue to specify properties by entering options, or you can exit and set properties interactively. When you use the interactive method, you can see the results of your changes as you work.

  6. Press Enter twice to exit the command. A distant light is not displayed as a light glyph.
    To change the properties of a distant light:
    • Enter lightlist at the command prompt.
    • In the Lights in Model window, double click on the distant light name from the light list
    • Use the Lighting Properties palette to change color and other properties.
