To create a default tooltip for a point of interest layer

  1. Click to display the Model Explorer.
    • Shortcut: click in the Utility Bar to open the Model Explorer.
  2. Right-click a Points of Interest feature layer and click Set Default Tooltip to open the Edit Tooltip window.
  3. Enter Tooltip content.
    • See Create Tooltips for information on formatting Tooltip content.
    • Optionally, Click Preview to see what the Tooltip will look like. Click Return to Editor to revise or to finish creating tooltip.
  4. To specify proximity, double-click this entry in the Data Sources panel.
  5. On the Table tab, specify how close the viewer needs to be to the point of interest to see the tooltip.

    Set the Unit Of Measure at the top of the Properties panel and then enter a value for PROXIMITY_DISTANCE.

    If you leave PROXIMITY_DISTANCE blank, the tooltip appears only when the viewer hovers over it.

  6. Click Close & Refresh to see your changes.

Set the POI feature layer proximity distance

  1. Click to display the Data Sources panel.
  2. Click in right side of Proximity Distance to display the value entry field.
  3. Enter a value specifying how close the user's cursor needs to be to the POI for the tooltip to display.
    • If you leave Proximity Distance value blank (0), the tooltip appears only when the viewer hovers over it.
    • Properties uses the current Unit Configuration setting for units of measure. Change unit of measure setting in the Application Options panel.
