Position the Modeling Toolkit custom pivot

Custom pivot adjustment mode lets you position and orient the pivot point anywhere in coordinate space.

To position the Modeling Toolkit custom pivot

  1. Select a component.
  2. In the Modeling Toolkit window, select a transform tool. See Transform tools.
  3. Click Adjust Pivot in the Transform Options to enter custom pivot adjustment mode.
    Tip: Hold D to temporarily activate pivot adjustment mode until the key is released. Quickly press Insert to activate pivot adjustment mode until Insert is pressed again.

    The manipulator updates, combining the handles from the Move and Rotate tools in one.

  4. Use the following snapping and orientation hotkeys to position the manipulator:
    To... Do this

    Snap the manipulator to the center of a component

    Click a component.
    Note: The manipulator only snaps to the axis of the active manipulator handle.

    Aim the active axis handle toward a component

    -click a component.

    Slide the manipulator along a surface

    -drag the manipulator along the surface.

    The manipulator is constrained to the active surface, letting you position the manipulator anywhere on the object.

    Align the pivot to a component

    + -click a component.

    Reset the position of the custom pivot

    Click anywhere outside of the object.

    Reset the orientation of the custom pivot

    -click anywhere outside of the object.

    Reset the position and orientation of the custom pivot

    + -click anywhere outside the object.
