Improving Dual Domain mesh match

The accuracy of Fill, Fill+Pack, Cool and Warp analyses, especially when using fiber-filled materials, depends highly on the correct representation of thickness throughout the part. In the case of a Dual Domain mesh, the thickness of a given area of the part is determined by first associating elements on each side of the part ("mesh matching"), and then calculating the distance between the matched elements.

The Mesh Statistics dialog shows what percentage of elements are successfully matched, and the Mesh Match diagnostic displays the mesh match results graphically. The following two methods of improving the Dual Domain mesh match percentage: Match Nodes and Remesh Area tools in the Mesh Tools dialog; and manual mesh match classification in the element properties.

To improve the mesh match quality:

  1. Display the current mesh match quality.
  2. Suppress small radii and rounds from the original CAD model before importing into Autodesk Simulation Moldflow Insight.
  3. Try importing the model in a different CAD format, for example IGES.
  4. Try different mesh generation settings to see which offers the best quality.
  5. Use mesh tools to improve mesh matching.
  6. Manually classify the mesh to improve mesh matching.
