You can modify the level mapping settings for a DGN export setup as part of the export process (as explained under
Export to DGN), or you can use the following procedure to access the setup at any time.
Note: Although you can load settings from a text file when creating/modifying an export setup, the level mapping information for exporting to DGN is stored as part of the export setup rather than as a separate text file.
- Click ExportOptions (Export Setups DGN).
The Levels tab of the Modify DGN Export Setup dialog displays settings for the currently selected setup.
- Select one the following Export level options to specify how Revit elements with view-specific graphic overrides will be mapped to MicroStation levels. (Graphic properties of Revit elements, such as color, line weight, and line style, are defined in the Object Styles of the categories to which the elements belong, but these definitions can be overridden for a selected element in a specific view.)
- Export category properties BYLEVEL and overrides BYELEMENT. A Revit element with view-specific graphic overrides will retain those overrides in the DGN file, but will reside on the same level as other entities in the same Revit category.
- Export all properties BYLEVEL, but do not export overrides. View-specific graphic overrides will be ignored in the DGN file. Any exported Revit element will reside on the same level as other entities in the same Revit category. By forcing all entities to display the visual properties defined by their level, this option results in a lower number of levels and provides by-level control over the exported DGN file.
- Export all properties BYLEVEL, and create new levels for overrides. A Revit element with view-specific graphics will be placed on its own level. This option provides by-level control over the exported DGN file, and preserves graphical intent. However, it increases the number of levels in the exported DGN file.
- For Load levels from standards, select a standard, or select Load settings from file, navigate to the file, and click Open.
- Edit mapping values as desired. To change a Projection or Cut value, click in the Level or Color ID column for the appropriate category, and enter the new value. (Color ID corresponds to a MicroStation color ID.)
Note: Although you cannot add level modifiers to individual categories when exporting to DGN format, you can still use the Phase Status and Underlay modifiers (listed under Modifiers in the Categories column) to control which level an exported element is placed on. For example, if the value in the Levels column for the Demolished phase status is blank or zero, then the phase status will not export, and a demolished door will be placed on level 40, which is the default level name for the Doors category. However, if the level value for Demolished is -Demo, then the demolished door will be placed on a separate 40-Demo level.
- Click OK to save the new or modified export setup. If you accessed the Modify DGN Export Setup dialog from the DGN Export dialog, focus returns to that dialog, and you can continue with the export operation or save the setup without exporting. For more information, see Export to DGN.
