Quick Start Tutorials

This section contains a couple of tutorials that have been specifically designed for the new user. Each procedure page begins with a video demonstrating how to perform the described steps, which are listed immediately below the video. Additional images and guidance have been provided relative to the main set of meshing, modeling, and analysis tutorials. However, the Quick Start Tutorials are also applicable to the more experienced user.

Choose from a linear static stress analysis example and a mechanical event simulation (MES) example.

Model Datasets

Click here to download the Quick Start Tutorials datasets from our online data and downloads site. Open or locally save the target zip file and extract the model files to the folder of your choice on your hard drive. The folder into which you extract the model datasets will be your working folder for both of the Quick Start Tutorials.

Autodesk Inventor Fusion

If you need a CAD solid modeling program, or would like to try one that has direct geometry manipulation capabilities, try Inventor Fusion. This desktop application is available as an added benefit for customers with a current service subscription and a Simulation Mechanical 2015 license. You can download Inventor Fusion 2013 R1 using the following link:

The CAD model datasets for the Quick Start Tutorials were created using Inventor Fusion. However, you do not need to have Fusion installed on your workstation for Simulation Mechanical to open these models. The behavior of the software will be different depending upon whether or not Fusion is installed...

If Fusion is Installed:
When you open a Fusion model in Simulation Mechanical, Fusion will launch automatically, and the model will be transferred from one program to the other. You will not need to interact with Inventor Fusion other than to close it when finished.
If Fusion is Not Installed:
The model data is read directly into Simulation Mechanical, rather than being transferred from the CAD program.

If you choose to download and install Fusion, and wish to learn more about modeling with this program, go to the following meshing and modeling tutorial:

Create Circuit Board CAD Model in Inventor Fusion.

You cannot complete this tutorial without Fusion, though you could create an identical assembly in another CAD package.
