Example of Cage Definition

Note: A cage has been defined for the ladder, which is in the topic Example of Ladder Definition.

To define a cage:

  1. Open the project that contains the defined ladder (see example of ladder definition).
  2. Click the Cage option .
  3. In the drawing area, select 2 ladder bars that determine the position of the cage (see the drawing below).
  4. On the Shape tab of the Cages dialog:
    • For hoops and vertical bars, define profiles (RB 2. 125) and families (Profile) to which they will belong. If the profile RB 2.125 is not available on the profile list, click , and in the Profile List dialog, select RB 2. 125 from the AISC database.
    • For Cage shape, select Type 1.
    • For Number of vertical bars, select 7.
    • Enter the dimensions as shown.
  5. On the Details tab:
    • For Vertical bars located, select Outside; for Weld thickness, enter 0.12 in.
    • For Fixing, select Welded; for Weld thickness, enter0.12 in.
    • For Hoop/ladder contact, select external.
  6. On the Exit tab:
    • For Exit variant, select Straight.
    • Enter the dimensions as shown.
  7. Click OK.

The defined cage is generated for the selected ladder.
