Roads Tutorial 2 Exercise 1: Adding a Style Zone

In this exercise, you will learn how to change the style for a particular section of a road, in this case to widen a section of two-lane road into a four-lane boulevard. First, however, you need to convert the standard InfraWorks planning road into a design road.

  1. Go to the bookmark Campus.
  2. Select the main road that goes around the campus.

The road is red with single-color (magenta) grips.

  3. Right-click the road and select Convert to Design Road.

Now the road is yellow with cyan and magenta colored grips.

  4. On the asset card, change the Edit Mode from Geometry to Style.
  5. Click the arrow to open the Style section of the asset card.
  6. Click the "+" sign to open the Style Palette.
  7. Locate the style Boulevard with Summer Hardwood.

You may need to scroll down to find this style. Mouse-over to see the full name of the style.

  8. Select the style and click OK.
  9. Move the asset card out of the way, so that you can see the beginning of the road.
  10. Click to select a start point for the style zone near the beginning of the road.

After you click, the start point is marked with a yellow slider.

  11. Move the other slider to the end point for the style zone near the intersection on the road.
  12. Click to select the end point.
  13. Click away from the road to deselect it.
  14. Zoom in and orbit the view to take a look at the new style zone.
