Roads Tutorial 2 Exercise 2: Adding a Passing Lane

You can also change a design road by adding a lane or lanes in one direction only.

  1. Go to the bookmark Road Passing Lane.
  2. Select the road.
  3. On the asset card, change the Edit Mode to Lanes Forward.

You set it to style in the previous exercise.

  4. Note that only one side of the road is selected.
  5. Increase the number of lanes to 2.

This increases the number of lanes along the whole length of the road.

  6. Zoom in to see the results.

This is not what you want because the goal is to add a lane along a particular section of the road, not all of it.

  7. Zoom out and then reduce the number of lanes to 1 again.
  8. Click the "+" sign to add a lane zone.
  9. Click to select the point on the road to start the passing lane.
  10. Click to select the end point.
  11. Increase the number of lanes to 2.
  12. Zoom in to see the results.

Now you have a realistic passing lane in a single direction.

  13. Click away from the road to deselect it.
  14. Repeat to add a passing lane of the same length to the other side of the road. TIP: Select Lanes Backward.
