Roads Tutorial 5 Exercise 1: Sketching a Component Road

This exercise introduces you to component roads: how to draw them and how to select and view details for the various components.

  1. Go to the bookmark Component Road.
  2. Select the road running horizontally in the center of the view and delete it.

    You will replace this standard road with a component road.

  3. Select the road running vertically on the left and convert it to a design road.
  4. Select the road running vertically on the right and convert it to a design road.
  5. Click the Component Roads tool and then from the catalog select the style Component/Assembly/Four Lane Divided with Sloped Grass Median & Asphalt Shoulder.
  6. Close the catalog.
  7. Sketch the road in a straight line, following the course of the road you just deleted. Double-click to finish.

    Intersections are created automatically at both ends of the road.

  8. Close the asset card.
  9. Click away from the road to deselect it.
  10. Go to the bookmark Component Road 3.
  11. Click to select the road in the center, on the median.
  12. Click again in the same place to select the Median component.

    The selected component is highlighted in a cyan color.

  13. On the Sloped Median asset card, change the width to 3m.
  14. Select one of the lanes, using the same method of click, pause, click.

    Note that the asset card changes.

  15. Click to select the shoulder.
  16. Click away from the road to deselect it.
