Roads Tutorial 1 Exercise 2: Sketching a Design Road

Sketching roads is a bit of an acquired skill, but it is not hard to pick up. Basically, you click to place a POI (point of intersection) and then extend a curve from one point to the next. This exercise gives you some practice in clicking and drawing curves.

  1. Switch to the proposal Roads Tutorial.
  2. Go to the Bookmark Road Start View.
  3. Open the Design Roadways tools and then click Arterial Roads.
  4. In the Catalog, enter "standard" to narrow down the selection of styles.
  5. Select the style Street > Interstate > Standard.
  6. Close the catalog.
  7. Click at the first point marker to start the road.
  8. Click again at the second point marker and draw a curve (shown in blue).

Just use the markers as a guide. It doesn't have to be precise.

  9. Click at the third point marker and draw another curve.
  10. Continue clicking and then drawing until you get to the last point marker.
  11. Double-click to finish the road segment.

The asset card pops up and editing controls appear on the road.

  12. Close the asset card.
  13. Click away from the road to deselect it.

You will get the chance to refine the curves in exercise 4. In the next exercise you will finish sketching the road by adding another segment.
