To import railways

Import railway data to add it to the current model. Configure imported railway data to specify desired settings such as the number of rail lanes and elevation offsets.

  1. Follow the general import instructions.
  2. On the Data Source Configuration screen, on the Common tab, map properties from the data source to the following:
    • Lanes: The number of rail lanes.
    • Elevation Offset: Adds a value (in meters) to every z-coordinate of the geometry (alters the elevation of all rails).
    • Elevation Offset From/To: Controls the slope of rails by specifying elevation offsets for their start and end points separately.

Elevation offsets are used in conjunction with the Draping settings on the Source tab. You can move rail lines 5 meters below ground level by using an elevation offset of -5. Then use the draping setting to place rails under the terrain (in tunnels). Use similar adjustments to place rail lines above the terrain (on bridges) or directly on the terrain. The automatic styling of the rail lines reflects these choices.

Advanced Tips

You can also use an expression to map a property from the data store to one of these attributes. See Use Expressions.
