Install the Maya Help

By default, Maya launches Help from the Internet, but you can instead use a local copy of the Help.

Prepare to install the Maya Help

Before you install the Help, complete the following actions:

• Install Maya 2016.
• Download the Maya 2016 Help compressed file for your platform from www.autodesk.com/maya-helpdownload-enu.
• Extract the files from the compressed file to the desired location.
  Note: You can choose to install the Maya Help on a shared location such as an internal network or web server.

Install Maya Help in a shared location

On Windows and Linux platforms, you can install the Maya Help on an internal network or web server, so that it can be accessed by multiple users.

Note: To use the Maya Help from a shared location, you must copy the docs directory to the location.

When choosing a shared location, ensure that the directory path to the Maya Help does the following:

• Points directly to the Help location. For example, \\CompanyServer\SharedLocation\MayaHelp\docs\Maya2016\en_US.

  Does not use an alias path.

• Points to the directory containing the index.html file. For example, the path pointing to the English Maya Help ends at the \en_US directory.
• Uses either http or https protocol for a web server location.

Note: Help preferences must be set in the Maya product on each computer to access the Help at the new location.
