Modeling

You may occasionally find it necessary to create geometry to add to a CAD model that you have imported, in order to improve the accuracy of the simulation. Modeling tools are available on the Geometry tab to help you create simple geometries, such as:

Runners
Gates
Sprues
Cooling lines
Molds

Geometries created in Synergy are based on nodes, curves and or regions. Broadly speaking, the steps involved are:

Create curves (lines) or nodes that will be used to define the geometry.
Set the property type.
Create the regions.

The geometry must then be meshed.

Filters
Filters help you select a required model or mesh entity by automatically snapping to the nearest instance of the selected model or mesh entity when you click in the Model Display pane.

Surface defects
If surface defects in the geometry model are not identified and corrected, then they will produce large numbers of defects in the mesh, such as mesh connectivity defects, holes, and overlapping elements. Surface ties are used to identify minor mismatches between surface boundaries.
Mold
A mold is a series of machined steel plates containing a cavity or cavities into which molten plastic is injected at high pressure. When the plastic cools, it solidifies into the shape of the cavity defined by the steel plates.
Adding a part
The Add button enables you to import additional parts. This can be useful when modeling a family mold.
Injection locations
The injection location represents the position where polymer is injected, enabling the software to simulate the flow pattern inside the mold cavity.
Feed system
There are a number of factors to consider when designing the feed system, including the gate locations, the number of cavities, the shape of the runner system components, and flow balance.
Cooling system
The cooling circuit is comprised of the cooling channels, various components added to the cooling channels to facilitate cooling, and the coolant which flows through the system.
Boundary conditions
Boundary Conditions are the final settings that define the physical boundaries of the molding setup.
