Use Automatic Thermal Zoning for Energy Analysis

To use automatic thermal zoning in the energy model, define parameters in the Energy Settings dialog.

  1. Create a model using conceptual masses, building elements, or both.
  2. Click Analyze tabEnergy Analysis panel (Energy Settings).
  3. In the Energy Settings dialog, define the Location of the model and select the desired weather station.
  4. Under Energy Analytical Model, define the following parameters:
    • Mode: Select Use Conceptual Masses and Building Elements for advanced zoning and more accurate results. (recommended)

If the model contains only conceptual masses and you want to use simplified zoning instead of advanced zoning, select Use Conceptual Masses.

    • Perimeter Zone Depth: Specify the distance to measure inward from the exterior walls to define the perimeter zone.
    • Perimeter Zone Division: Select the check box to use automatic thermal zoning.
  5. (Optional) Define other parameters as appropriate. See Energy Settings Dialog.
  6. Create the energy model.
When you create the energy model, the view shows the resulting thermal zones, which are described by analytical spaces. Select a space to determine its shape and to check its volume and area on the Properties palette.
