Simulation Job Manager Preferences

You can modify the default behavior of the Simulation Job Manager with the Preferences dialog box.

To access Preferences, click the button in the upper-right corner of the Simulation Job Manager user interface. The Preferences dialog box contains the following tabs:

General

The General tab contains the following options:

General Options

Description

Launch on system startup

(Enabled by default.) This causes the Simulation Job Manager to automatically start when the local workstation is started. It is good practice to leave this option enabled to automatically resume the transfer of simulation results (without having to start an Autodesk® product) if the local workstation is restarted.

Block sleep mode during file transfers

(Enabled by default.) This prevents the operating system from going into a "sleep" mode due to inactivity while files are transferred to the Autodesk® secure storage service.

Show tasks

(Disabled by default.) Enable this to display details of the specific actions performed during each stage of the job. (Stages are Upload, Solve, and Download, and are described in the Job Status Tab topic.)

Number of days to show finished jobs

(Default = 7) Jobs launched within this time period are listed in the Job Status tab. Change this value to show more or fewer jobs by increasing or decreasing the time period, respectively.

Refresh rate in seconds

(Default = 5) While jobs are running, information on the Job Status and File Transfer tabs updates at this interval. To reduce network traffic, increase this value. Because very large jobs change slower than smaller jobs, increasing the refresh rate reduces network traffic but does not negatively reduce the timeliness of status updates.

Number of seconds to show a notification

This is the amount of time the Notification message window appears on the screen. You can use this parameter to increase or reduce the appearance time of the Notification message.

Number of seconds to delay file transfer at startup

When Simulation Job Manager is automatically started during a Windows® startup, network errors may occur if a file transfer immediately resumes. This is often due to a delay in the initialization of the relevant network drivers and connections controlled by Windows®. Use this value to avoid these network errors by delaying when the Simulation Job Manager starts the data transfer after it is first started.

File Transfer

The File Transfer tab contains the following options. You can use them to control how files are managed between the local workstation and the Autodesk® storage service.

File Transfer Options

Description

File transfer chunk size in MB's

(Default = 5 MB.) The Simulation Job Manager divides job files into finite pieces called chunks. Use this option to increase or decrease the size of these chunks. Increase the size if you have a very fast network with high bandwidth. Decrease the size if your network is not as fast or if you are experiencing bandwidth issues.

Note: In the event of a failed transfer (because of a network interruption or workstation reboot), Simulation Job Manager restarts from the last completed data chunk.

Maximum concurrent up loads

(Default = no limit.) Use this option to limit how many jobs are transferred to the Autodesk® storage service at the same time. This is useful if you experience network or bandwidth limitations while launching many concurrent jobs.

Maximum concurrent down loads

(Default = no limit.) Use this option to limit how many jobs are transferred from the Autodesk® storage service to the local workstation at the same time. This is useful if you experience network or bandwidth limitations while launching many concurrent jobs.

File transfer temporary folder

This is a folder on the local workstation in which temporary files are stored during the file transfer. Change this location if you experience disk space limitations or would rather use a different location.

Local Solve

The Local Solve tab contains the following options. You can use these items to control the behavior of locally-run jobs:

Local Solve Options

Description

Minimum free disk space (%)

When the amount of available disk space falls below this value, the Simulation Job Manager issues a warning to let you know that your disk is nearly full.

Block sleep mode during file transfers

(Enabled by default.) This prevents the operating system from going into a "sleep" mode due to inactivity while files are transferred to the Autodesk® secure storage service.

Advanced

The Advanced tab contains the following options for controlling the behavior of the Simulation Job Manager:

Advanced Options

Description

Verbose logging

Enable this option to output additional details to the Support Log.

Show time details

Check to display the detailed time history of jobs in the Job Status tab. When unchecked, time information is presented in a single Time column.

Collect analytic information

Understanding how people use our products is an important tool for continually improving them. To do this, we collect non-personal product usage information using Google Analytics. For this to be effective, we need to know what product you are using and to understand that you are a unique user. As a result, we collect the following information:

  • Number of jobs submitted by product: We use this information to help determine the frequency with which our products and services are used.
  • Software version used for each job: This information helps us better support our products and services.
  • Where jobs are run: Whether jobs solve on the cloud or locally on the user's machine. We do not collect any information about the job itself.

Note that we do not collect or track any other information about specific jobs. This information is not used to identify or contact you.

You can disable data collection by using the check box in the initial dialogue screen. Additionally, you can update your choice later with this checkbox.

Language

Select the displayed language of the Simulation Job Manager user interface.

Reset Columns

Restore the default arrangement of the columns in the List View.

Show Support Log

Click to view a record of all interactions between the local workstation and the cloud. A Technical Support representative may request this file to help troubleshoot data transfer issues in the event of a support request.

Show Server Support Log

Click to view a record of the activities on the file server. A Technical Support representative may request this file to help troubleshoot data transfer issues in the event of a support request.

Text editor to use to view logs

Specify the locally installed text editor program that you prefer to use to view Simulation Job Manager log files.
