Open the Pin Joint Assembly into Simulation Mechanical

The Pin Joint model is provided as a STEP file (universal CAD format). In this part of the tutorial, we open the STEP file in Autodesk® Simulation Mechanical and choose the analysis type.

  1. Start Simulation Mechanical. On the Open dialog box, click the Open icon in the left column, and navigate to the folder containing the pin joint assembly. (Your folder may be different from the one shown below.)

  2. From the Files of type menu, select STEP Files (*.stp, *.ste, *.step). Select Joint_Assembly.stp , and click Open.

  3. If the analysis type is not already set to Static Stress with Linear Material Models, click the arrow, select Linear, and Static Stress with Linear Material Models. Then, click OK.

  4. Click Yes when prompted about using the default Simulation Mechanical color pallette.
  5. Click Yes when prompted about importing CAD part names.

    The model opens in the FEA Editor environment of Autodesk® Simulation Mechanical. You should see the assembly as shown in the following image:
