Calculate the Coulomb Forces

The Coulomb forces are calculated only for specified surfaces of the model. To determine the force acting on a part due to an electrostatic field, designate the surface of the mating part. In this example, we want the force acting on the rotor. Therefore, we will specify the air surfaces that are in contact with the rotor.

For your convenience, all of the lines belonging to the rotor contact surfaces of the air have already been assigned a common surface number, specifically surface 5. This facilitates the Coulomb force calculation setup, since only one surface must be specified.

Now, we visually verify the Coulomb force calculation surface and then set up the force calculation option.

  1. Click the  Home icon above the ViewCube for an isometric view of the model.
  2. Right-click the Part 2 heading in the browser and deactivate the Visibility option.
  3. Expand the list of surfaces under Part 3 by clicking the "+" sign to the left of the Surfaces heading.
    • Select Surface 5 < Unnamed >. All of the rotor contact surfaces of the air (Part 3) are highlighted in magenta, indicating that they have been selected, as shown below.
  4. Right-click the Part 2 heading in the browser and enable the Visibility option.
  5. Right-click the Analysis Type heading in the browser and select  Edit Analysis Parameters.
    1. Click the Options tab.
      1. Activate the Invoke force/charge calculation check box.
      2. Type 3 in the Part column.
      3. Type 5 in the Surface column.
    2. Click OK.
