Activating the command: In the Results environment, Results Contours Settings
Legend Properties
Range Settings tab.
Automatically calculate value range
If this check box is activated, the range will be between the maximum and minimum values of the current result contour.
Low and High
To specify the minimum and maximum values for the legend box to certain numbers, you can specify these in the Low and High fields. Clear the Automatically calculate value range check box. The numbers at each tick mark will be evenly distributed between these two numbers.
This section can be used to only shade the elements or nodes that contain a result above or below a user specified number. You can activate the appropriate check box and then either specify the number or use the slider bar in the appropriate section. You can easily see areas in your model that have exceeded the design specifications. You can use both the Less-Than and Greater-Than sections at the same time. You can evaluate tensile and compressive stresses when looking at the tensor results.
Both the Current Range and Threshold need some explanation when you switch Model Units or Display Units. The user-entered values are converted when a different Unit System is activated. The user-entered values are not converted when the type of result is changed.
Example: Take a heat transfer analysis, and view the temperature result. You enter a Current Range of 340 to 400 K. If the Display Units are changed to a system that has temperature in o C (such as Metric mks (SI)), the Current Range will be 66.85 to 126.85 o C. The original temperature range in K is converted to o C. If another Display Units with temperature in o F is activated (such as English (in BTU)), the Current Range now becomes 152.33 to 260.33 o F.
If the Results are now changed from Temperature to Heat Flux, there is no correlation. So, the user-entered values remain, but the units of the value are now different. The range now becomes 152.33 to 260.33 BTU/(in 2 sec). Activating the Metric mks (SI) unit system will convert the range to 2.49E8 to 4.26E8 J/(m 2 sec), and so on.
The threshold values operate in the same fashion.
