The Global FEA Objects Preferences button will allow you to control the size and appearance of all the FEA objects. This button will also allow you to control how the arrows for the loads are displayed on the model. By default, the arrows are drawn to appear outside of the model geometry. In some cases this may cause confusion because the orientation of the arrows may be different on a single surface of the model. In such cases, choose to have the arrows pointing to the node or element or pointing away.
The Individual FEA Objects Preferences button will allow you to control the size and appearance of each FEA object. First you must select the FEA object that you are interested in. The controls that are valid for the selected FEA object will become available.
The Part and Mesh Color Preferences button will allow you to control the colors of the parts and the meshes in the Results environment. The primary mesh coloration refers to the color of the mesh lines on the image that contains a result contour. The secondary mesh coloration refers to the color of the mesh lines on the image that does not contain any results contour.
The Results Preferences button will allow you to control the use of lighting when the results are displayed on the model. You can also specify that you want the results on beam elements to be depicted as colored boxes at each end of the elements.
The 3D Element Visualization button accesses a dialog that where you control whether certain elements are displayed as the mesh or rendered as a 3D object in the Results environment. For example, beam elements can be drawn as a line or as the actual cross section. See the page: Browser Functions for details on toggling the visualization rendering.
The controls on this dialog behave as follows:
- Visualize beams in 3D. When the option is activated, the visualization data will be calculated and the beam elements will be visualized with the proper cross section by default when the model is loaded into the Results environment. When this option is not activated, the visualization data will still be calculated, but the elements will be shown in their original mesh form by default. The beams can still be visualized in 3D by activating the option in the Results environment.
- Visualize 2D elements in 3D. When the option is activated, the visualization data will be calculated, but the model is not shown in the 3D form by default. It can be visualized in 3D by activating the option in the Results environment. When the option is not activated, the visualization data is not calculated, so the model cannot be visualized as 3D in the Results environment.
These options only have an effect when a model is loaded into the Results environment for the first time. Therefore, if the model is already displayed in the Results environment, you need to close all Results windows (Window: Close or click the X on the window), change Options Results 3D Element Visualization option, and reload the model into the Results environment (Tools Environments Results or click the Results tab from the FEA Editor).
