Using Construction Tools

You can use construction tools to directly operate on features in the database. These tools are sometimes referred to as COGO (coordinate geometry) tools. Existing coordinates are retrieved and results are directly stored in the database. You can also generate detailed construction reports.

The construction elements (lines, points, and text) appear temporarily with the help of special construction feature classes. They are removed from the drawing as soon as you save the new elements and quit or close the dialog boxes.

Note: For Arc Intersections, when you calculate the tangentials, you cannot create dimensioning.

In Infrastructure Application Extension, you can use construction commands in an industry model that is 3D-enabled. However, the following commands do not support 3D:

• Arc Intersection
• Orthogonal Calculation
• Polar Calculation
• Offset
• Right Angle Course
• Free Standpoint

You cannot digitize 3D line strings.

Setting Up Construction Functions

To make construction functions available, the Autodesk Infrastructure Map Server administrator must do the following:

• Set general settings (application options) with Infrastructure Administrator. For more information, see the “Infrastructure Administrator Guide.”
• Add the construction feature classes in Infrastructure Administrator, Industry Model Settings.
• Define an appropriate stylization in the display model. For more information on styling features, see the “AutoCAD Map 3D Users Guide.”
