Apply BOSS caches as displacement maps

You can use the cached EXR files of a BOSS solver as vector displacement maps for rendering.

  1. Before caching the solver, make sure to turn on Use Horizontal Displacement so that the cache files contain values for all axes. For more information about caching BOSS solvers, see Cache BOSS solvers and influences.
  2. Connect a displacement shader to the material.
  3. In the displacement shader, make sure to set:
    • Vector Encoding to Floating-Point Absolute.
    • Vector Space to World.
  4. Connect a File node's Out Color port to the displacement shader's Vector Displacement input.
  5. Set the File node's Image Name attribute to the file path and name of the BOSS cache.
