Working with meshes from third party

Models meshed by a third-party need to go through a few steps process to ensure the compliance with Autodesk Moldflow Insight - Solvers and ensure the best results. It can be for example *.unv,*.bdf or *.pat formats.

Meshed formats

There are several formats that are imported that already contain meshes. All of these formats support midplane models - some support 3D and Dual Domain.

Synergy supports formats from previous versions of Moldflow Plastics Insight and C-Mold including:

Legacy formats

  1. Import your third-party mesh by clicking (Home tab > Import panel > Import).
  2. Assign element properties to define the elements defining a part, a mold block, an insert, and so on.
  3. For Dual Domain meshes, use the Imprint tool to improve the compliance to the Quality standards.
  4. For surface meshes, run Mesh statistics choosing triangles as element type. Thus you get an overview of the potential defects of the mesh.
  5. For 3D meshes, ensure that mesh refinement meets Moldflow requirement, by checking if 3D Mesh xxxx elements is ticked in the study Tree.

If 3D Mesh xxxx elements is not ticked, it means that there is Insufficient refinement through the thickness. Double click 3D Mesh xxxx elements in the study Tree, to see where is the refinement problem. Remesh as necessary to solve the problem.
