Apply the Constraints

Now we apply appropriate constraints, including a 1D rotational spring support, to the ends of the mounting beam and a fixed boundary condition to the static comb (Stator).

  1. Click  View Navigate Orientation Top View.
  2. With the   Selection Shape Point or Rectangle and  Selection Select Vertices commands active, click the node at the top of the vertical beam element (+Y end) as currently viewed (see image below).

  3. Click Setup Constraints General Constraint.
    1. Click No Translation.
    2. Click OK.
  4. With this node still selected, click Setup Constraints 1D Spring Support.
    1. Select the Rotation option under Type.
    2. Select the Y Direction option.
    3. Type 0.35 in the Stiffness field.
    4. Click OK.
  5. Click the node at the bottom of the vertical beam element (-Y end) as currently viewed (see image below).

  6. Click Setup Constraints General Constraint.
    1. Activate the Tx and Tz options under Constrained DOFs.
    2. Click OK.
  7. Click  View Navigate Orientation Back View.
  8. With the  Selection Select Surfaces command active, select the face of the ring at the outside diameter of the motor, as shown highlighted below (yellow on green).  
  9. Click Setup Constraints General Constraint.
    1. Click Fixed.
    2. Click OK.
