- The file Bolted Flange.step is provided in your tutorial models folder.
- We will add bolts at each of the two holes, specifying the following parameters:
- 0.5" bolt diameter
- 0.85" head and nut diameter
- Six spokes
- Axial force preload of 30 lbf per bolt
- Bolts are NOT tightly fit to the holes in either part
- We will mesh the model using an absolute mesh size of 0.44 inch.
Note: (1) Bolts are automatically created between specified surfaces using a set of beam elements. The specified number or spokes represent the head and nut. Construction vertices are created at the outside ends of the head and nut spokes. When the model is meshed (after bolt creation), the construction vertices will ensure that the surface meshes of the adjacent CAD parts contain nodes at the same locations. Therefore, each bolt head and nut will be well connected to the adjacent parts. If the model is meshed prior to adding bolts, the model must be remeshed (after bolt creation) to ensure that the bolt head and nut are properly connected to nodes on the CAD parts.
Note: (2) When "Tight Fit" checkboxes are activated, spokes provide a connection to every node on the specified bolt hole surfaces. When "Tight Fit" is not specified, the bolt is only connected to the nut and head contact surfaces (no interaction with hole surfaces).
