A summary of what's new in SpeedForm 2017, including changes introduced in SpeedForm PE (Product Extension) 1.
Use Alt + S to toggle the Select Through selection filter on and off.
As of SpeedForm 2016 PE 1, you can map your own hotkeys to any SpeedForm command. Choose
File
Hotkeys. You can modify, export, and import hotkeys in this list.
In SpeedForm 2016 PE 1, we added a new
Wheel Arch command (Sculpt
Primitives
Wheel Arch) that cuts out minutes of tedious work right at the start of the exterior modeling process.
In SpeedForm 2017, the XZ plane is now selected automatically when you choose the command. We also improved the topology of the primitive.
In SpeedForm 2016 PE 1, we introduced a new "simplified T-Splines" mode that leverages the OpenSubd technology used in Maya and other programs for some significant speed improvements. Now, in SpeedForm:
Simplified T-Splines models cannot have T-points, tangency handles (which give more control on creased edges and the edge of a surface), or non-uniform knot internals, but because they are simpler mathematically, expect to see a sizeable performance improvement when your models are "simplified," depending on how complex the topology is.
Simplified T-Spline models have green isocurves.
T-Spline models can have T-points, tangency handles, and non-uniform knot intervals, so they offer greater control and continuity over the surface. If your T-Spline becomes complex, performance might suffer.
In that case, you can use the new Simplified Preview mode (hotkey 4), which displays your T-Splines as a simplified T-Spline. Dashed lines appear in areas of the model that are displayed differently in Simplified preview mode than what the T-Splines actually looks like.
Go back to Smooth Preview mode (hotkey 3) to see the actual shape of the model.
T-Spline models have black isocurves.
To convert a T-Splines model into a Simplified T-Spline model:
Utilities
Simplify.
To convert a Simplified T-Spline into a T-Spline:
Refine
Insert Point,
Insert Edge, or
Subdivide commands with the
Insertion Mode set to
Exact.
or
Utilities
Repair Body command and click a star point to turn it into a T-Point.
In SpeedForm 2017, we improved the handling of creases so that they are now consistent between the two modes.
New
Edit by Curve command (Sculpt
Shape
Edit by Curve) lets you drive and refine model edges using a Bezier curve.
New Pull Direction options for the Pull command allow pulling in 1d or 2d.
New Focal Length option was added to the Camera Settings dialog box in the Render workspace.
