Export a Project to IFC

Save a project as an IFC file for use with an IFC-certified application that does not use the RVT file format.

1. Load the IFC mapping file that you want to use for the export to IFC.

   See Load and Modify an IFC Mapping File. You can also use this procedure to modify the mapping file or to map non-standard Revit families to IFC containers.

2. Click File tab Export (IFC).
3. In the Export IFC dialog, for File name, click Browse, and navigate to the target folder for the IFC file.
4. Enter a name for the IFC file, and click Save.
5. For Current selected setup, select the IFC setup to use to create the file.

   The <In-Session Setup> option is a modifiable setup which is not saved between sessions. You can configure the options as desired to export the project to IFC. There are 9 built-in setups. These setups correspond to the IFC version options. These setups cannot be modified or deleted, but they can be duplicated to create a customized version.

6. Optional: Click Modify setup to customize the IFC setup options. For information on the setup options, see IFC Export Setup Options.

   The Modify Setup dialog displays. You can modify the In-Session Setup or add additional named setups using the Create or Duplicate options. The new setup configurations you create are saved with the project, and can be reused if the same model is exported.

   If you want to...	Then...
   Modify settings for the current export only	Select <In-Session Setup>. Modify the options on the tabs in the Modify Setup dialog. Click OK. Note: Changes you make to the in-session setup are not saved between sessions.
   Create a setup	Click (Create a new setup). In the New export setup dialog, enter a name, and click OK. Modify the options as desired on the tabs in the Modify Setup dialog. Click OK.
   Create a setup based on an existing setup	Select a setup in the left pane, and click (Create a new setup based on the selected setup). In the New export setup dialog, enter a name, and click OK. Modify the options as desired on the tabs in the Modify Setup dialog. Click OK.
   Delete a setup	Select a named setup (one you created). Click (Delete the selected setup). Note: Built-in setups cannot be deleted.
   Rename a setup	Select a named setup (one you created). Click (Rename the selected setup). In the Rename export setup dialog, enter a new name, and click OK. Note: Built-in setups cannot be renamed.

7. Click Export.

The resulting IFC file and a log file for the export process are placed in the target folder.
