To define the mold internal and external edge lengths for CAD mold models

Set the internal and external mold mesh surface length on an imported CAD mold model.

Prior to generating the mold mesh:

  • Mesh the part, feed system, and cooling channels
  • Make visible the layers containing the CAD mold, the part, feed system, and cooling channels.
  1. Using the Ctrl key and the Select tool, rotate the mold and select all 6 faces.
  2. Click (Mesh tab > Mesh panel > Density) to open the Define Mesh Density dialog. The mold faces selected in the previous step are highlighted.
  3. Set the Global edge length (Edge length in Global meshing settings section) to reflect the mold internal edge lengths, or accept the default value.
  4. In the left-hand panel, select the first mold face, then click Add>>.
  5. Repeat this step for all the remaining mold faces. You can also use the Ctrl key to select all faces at the same time.
  6. Make sure that Apply global mesh settings is deselected. This will activate the Edge length entry box of the Mesh control group settings section. Enter a suitable mold external edge length in the Edge length box. Mold external edges may be as much as 3-4 times as long as the internal edges.
  7. Click OK to accept the new external edge length for these mold faces and Close.
  8. Click (Mesh tab > Mesh panel > Generate Mesh). The mold is now meshed with the specified edge lengths.
