Use the 3D Mesh Repair Wizard to identify where problems exist in the mesh.
To access this dialog, click
( ) after you generate a 3D mesh.
Dialog element | Mesh type | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Inverted Tetras | ![]() |
Detects tetrahedra which share a common triangle but overlap each other. |
Collapsed Faces | ![]() |
Detects zero-thickness parts in the model. |
Refinement | ![]() |
Detects cross sections of the part that do not have the specified minimum number of layers. |
Long Edges | ![]() |
Detects internal tetrahedral edges that are so long that they impact on the accuracy of the analysis. The maximum edge length allowed is expressed as a ratio of the internal to surface edge length. |
Large Volume | ![]() |
Detects tetrahedra that are so large that they affect the analysis accuracy. The reference value is the ratio of a tetrahedron compared to the average volume. |
Aspect Ratio | ![]() |
Detects tetrahedra that are too long and thin |
Large Angle | ![]() |
Detects tetrahedra with extreme angles between faces. These elements are too flat. |
Repair Checked | ![]() |
The Mesh Repair Wizard tries to automatically repair the selected categories.
Note: Inverted Tetra and
Collapsed Faces cannot be repaired automatically. These errors occur as a result of incorrect manual mesh manipulation and can only be repaired manually. Consider re-importing the CAD model as the manual repair can be difficult.
|
Settings | ![]() |
Opens a dialog where the target values for the mesh are set. |
Tetra Mesh Overview | ![]() |
Provides a summary of the properties of the mesh. |
Target Value | ![]() |
The threshold value for the selected criteria is displayed. By default the settings value is displayed. This value can be overwritten and the corresponding value for the Number over target is updated. |
Number over target | ![]() |
The number of problem elements in the model represents the extent of an issue. The value shown corresponds to the highlighted category. |
Isolate in Layer | ![]() |
Assigns the problem elements identified by the Wizard to a layer called
Diagnostic Result, for easier identification. The
Entity Navigator can then be used to investigate individual problems.
Note: The elements that are within the
Diagnostic Result layer have a different color, irrespective of layer switched on/off. To reset the color, assign those
Diagnostic Result elements to their original layer.
