To create a valve gate controller within the study

Applies to 2017.3 Update and later

You can create a valve gate controller, or edit an existing controller and save it under a new name.

On export, valve gate controller information created within a study is shared with the study file. Settings that are obtained from the valve gate controller database cannot be viewed in an exported study file unless the valve gate controller database is also shared.

To create a valve gate:

  1. Click (Boundary Conditions tab > Feed System panel > Valve Gate Controller) and select Create/Edit.
  2. Click on the New button.
  3. Enter a unique name for the new valve gate controller, in the Controller name box.
  4. Select the Valve gate trigger from the drop-down menu. The options include:
    Widget Explanation
Time Select whether the valve gate is initially open or closed, then enter the times (sec), from the start of injection, at which further opening/closing of the valve gate should occur. If you choose initially Open, the only option in Valve gate open/close times table is to close it again.
Flow Front Select whether the triggering location is the gate node or another specified model node. If required, enter a delay time before the valve gate opens, starting from the instant when the flow front passes the triggering location.
Pressure Select whether the valve gate is initially open or closed, select whether the triggering location is the gate node or another specified model node, then enter the pressure values at which further opening/closing of the valve gate is to occur.
% Volume Select whether the valve gate is initially open or closed, then enter the %volume filled values at which further opening/closing of the valve gate is to occur.
Ram Position Select whether the valve gate is initially open or closed, then enter the ram position values at which further opening/closing of the valve gate is to occur.
  5. Enter the Valve gate initial state. The default is closed, but you can change this to open for all valve gate triggers except flow front.
  6. Use the Valve gate open/close velocity drop-down menu to select whether this controller will open and close the valve gate instantly, or whether it will open them in a controlled manner.
  7. In the Valve gate open/close times table, enter a delay time, if appropriate, before the valve gate opens, measured from the time the flow front reaches the trigger location, and then enter the times (sec), from the valve gate opening time, at which further opening/closing of the valve gate is to occur.
  8. For Variable Speed controllers, enter the Maximum pin stroke and the Nominal Pin Diameter.
  9. Select whether your variable speed profile will be Distance vs Time, or Distance vs Velocity, then program the variable speed profiles for opening and closing, in the Open tab and the Close tab.
  10. Check all your entries, then click OK to save this valve gate controller.
