To Create a Free Cut with a Cutting Plane

Splitting a part along a single plane across all shells

There are three ways to position and orient the cutting plane:

  1. By 3 Points
  2. Tangential to Surface
  3. Vertical to Surface

To create a cutting plane by 3 points

  1. Click Modify > Free Cut.
  2. Switch to the Plane Cut tab.
  3. Click Create Cutting Plane by 3 Points.
  4. Choose 3 points on the part to define the plane.
    Note: When you release your cursor after placing the final point, the cut plane is created. Hold your cursor when selecting the last point to see a preview of the plane. The center of the plane is placed at the same location as the final point.
  5. Click Cut to complete the cut.

To create a cutting plane tangential to surface

  1. Click Modify > Free Cut.
  2. Switch to the Plane Cut tab.
  3. Click Create Cutting Plane Tangential to Surface.
  4. Choose a point on the part to define the plane. The cutting plane is placed tangential to the point on the part selected. The center of the plane is placed at the same location as the point selected.
  5. Click Cut to complete the cut.

To create a cutting plane vertical to surface

  1. Click Modify > Free Cut.
  2. Switch to the Plane Cut tab.
  3. Click Create Cutting Plane Vertical to Surface.
  4. Choose a point on the part to define the plane. The cutting plane is placed vertical to the point on the part selected. The center of the plane is placed at the same location as the point selected.
  5. Click Cut to complete the cut.
