To Open or Create Documents in BIM 360

You can open or create documents from the Civil 3D Start tab.

Save files to, and open files from, your BIM 360 projects.

The following icons are displayed on the Prospector tab in Toolspace when you are working in a drawing that is stored in BIM 360:

To open documents from the Start tab

To create new documents from the Start tab

To open documents from the BIM 360 page of the Start tab

You can open documents that are stored in BIM 360 from the BIM 360 page of the Start tab.

Tip: Only documents that you can open directly in Civil 3D (DWG, DWT, DWS, and DXF) are displayed on this page. You can see other file types in a folder by opening the connected drive in Windows Explorer.
  1. On the Start tab, click BIM 360 to display the BIM 360 page.

    At the top of the BIM 360 page, the BIM 360 account name and project are displayed.

  2. To change accounts or projects, click the account name and project to display a menu where you can switch projects or accounts.
  3. In the table, navigate to the folder you want to access. Click a folder in the project to open it.
  4. To open a document, do one of the following:
    • Click the document you want to open.
      Note: If a lock icon appears next to a document, it means the document is already locked by someone else and it will open read-only.
    • Click the more icon and click Open or Open Read-only.

To open documents from the Recent page of the Start tab

You can open recently-used documents from the Recent page of the Start tab.

The Recent page provides access to recently-used documents that are stored in BIM 360, as well as documents that are stored locally.

Tip: The number of files shown on the Recent page is controlled by the Number of Recently Used Files setting under Application Menu on the Open and Save tab of the AutoCAD Options dialog box.
  1. On the Start tab, click Recent to display the Recent page.
  2. To open a document, do one of the following:
    • Click the document you want to open.
      Note: If a document is already locked by someone else, it will open read-only.
    • Click the more icon and click Open or Open Read-only.
