Migrate Frame Generator parts

Frame Generator files created in Autodesk Inventor 2008 require migration to Autodesk Inventor 2020 and Content Center to work with the Change Frame Members and Refresh commands. The migration process adds the Content Center data to the 2008 parts. Autodesk Inventor 2020 can then treat these files like other Content Center parts.

Before you begin these procedures:

For more information, see the Migration topic.

Start in the assembly environment.

Use the Migrate command

  1. Open a file that was created in Autodesk Inventor 2008 and contains frame members.
  2. Click File Manage Migrate.

All parts in the file are migrated, and the Frame Generator specific files are identical to those generated using Get Instance of Content Center.

Save files to the current version

  1. Open a file that was created in Autodesk Inventor 2008 and contains frame members.
  2. Without modifying parts specific to Frame Generator, click File Save.
  3. In the Save dialog box, click Yes to All then click OK.

All files are migrated together, regardless of the settings in the Save dialog box.

Execute a Frame Generator command

  1. Open a file that was created in a previous version of Autodesk Inventor and contains frame members.
  2. On the Design tab, Frame panel, start a command and click OK.

Any of the following commands start migration:

Commands on the ribbon
  • Insert Frame Members
  • Insert End Cap
  • Change Frame Members
  • Miter Corners
  • Notch Frame Members
  • Trim to Frame Members
  • Trim and Extend to Face
  • Lengthen/Shorten Frame Member

  • Beam/Column Calculator
  • Plate Calculator
Commands on the context menu
  • Delete with Frame Generator
  • Edit with Frame Generator
  • Demote Frame Generator Components
  • Promote Frame Generator Components
  • Delete Half of the End Treatment

Use Task Scheduler

  1. Open Task Scheduler (Start Programs Autodesk Autodesk Inventor [version] Tools Task Scheduler).
  2. In the Task Scheduler main menu, click Create Task Migrate Files.
  3. Start the migration task, selecting files that contain frames.

All frame files are migrated together. Any migration failure information is documented in the Task Scheduler migration log file.
