This message may appear when you are trying to modify a site element using Site Designer.
Issue: On the Site Designer tab, you selected a tool on the Modify panel and then clicked in the view to select the element to modify. However, the selected element is not a host line for the specified Modify tool.
For example, if you click Modify panel
(Street), you must then click in the view to select the host line of a street. If you click Modify panel
(Soft Terrain), you must select the host line of a soft terrain element, such as a berm or a swale.
Solution: Move the cursor in the view until it highlights an item. Check the message in the status bar; it indicates the category, family, and type of the item.
If the status message indicates that the highlighted item is from the Topography or Mass categories, do not click to select the item.
Instead, move the cursor closer to the host line for the element to modify. Zoom into the view, if needed, or press Tab to cycle through nearby elements. Watch the status message. When it displays "Lines : Model Lines" or "Lines : Detail Lines," click to select it.
When you successfully select a host line, the Modify dialog presents a list of functions.
If you are unable to locate the host line, try the following strategies to find it:
- Open a different view.
- Rotate the model in a 3D view.
- If host lines are hidden from views due to phase settings, open views with different phase settings, or change/remove the Phase Filter of the current view.
- Press ESC to exit the Modify tool, open a view with the correct phase setting, and try the Modify tool again.
