To create streets, curbs, and sidewalks with Site Designer, modify the base toposurface and place site elements.
This video demonstrates the following:
When you create streets, curbs, and sidewalks with Site Designer, you are modifying the base toposurface and placing site elements representing the hardscape in the model. Host lines define the position of the elements, and a special Site Designer family controls the geometry of the elements.
First, place host lines for the elements. Host lines are model or detail lines. For streets and sidewalks, the host line represents the center line of the element. For a curb, the host line is the face of the curb.
In this example, models lines are placed for the streets around the building. After you place the host lines, select the tool for the element from the Locate panel on the Site Designer tab.
In this case, we are adding street elements to the site. In the Streets dialog, select Streets for the family and for the street type, select 2 lanes with curb and gutter. Enter a name for the street element. Next, specify the positioning options.
In this case we want the street to follow the toposurface, so we'll select Relative Elevation from Toposurface, and set the elevation offset to 0. Selecting the options "Use an Existing Host Line" and "Chain" lets you pick an existing host line to create the street element. Click Insert, and select one of the host lines for the street (the chain of lines is selected automatically). The streets are then generated and placed on the modified toposurface based on the path of the model line selected. Next, place a different street type for the drop-off area. Site Designer detects the intersection of the streets and updates the original street.
In this example, the default intersection radius is accepted. Additional cross streets which will enter a parking lot are added, as well as the intersections with the loop road. The process to place sidewalks and curbs is similar to that for streets. During placement, you select host lines and then Site Designer grades the toposurface and creates a site element to represent the sidewalk or curb.
