Use this procedure and considerations when placing a lighting fixture in the model.
- Load into the project the lighting fixture families that you want to use in the building model.
- In the project, open a view that displays the surface on which you can place the lighting fixture.
For example, to place a ceiling-based lighting fixture, open a reflected ceiling plan. To place a wall-based lighting fixture, open a section or an elevation. To place a table lamp or a floor lamp, open a floor plan or a section.
- On the ribbon, click (Place a Component).
- Architecture tabBuild panelComponent drop-down (Place a Component)
- Structure tabModel panelComponent drop-down (Place a Component)
- Systems tabModel panelComponent drop-down (Place a Component)
- Select the lighting fixture from the Type Selector.
- In the drawing area, click to place instances of the lighting fixture in the desired locations.
- To exit the Component tool, press ESC twice.
When placing the lighting fixture, consider the following:
- To see the light source symbol in a view, in addition to the lighting fixture geometry, make the light source visible.
- If you want to place a table lamp on an elevated surface such as a desk or table, do so in a section view (or use the Offset parameter on the Properties palette to specify its height above the floor). If you place the lamp on a desk in a floor plan view, the lamp may be placed under the desk.
- In a floor plan view, wall-based lighting fixtures (such as sconces) may not display if the cut plane of the floor plan view occurs below the height at which the fixture is mounted to the wall.
