Section Properties

The following properties can be specified on the Ax, Iy, Iz tab in the New section dialog:

Ax

Cross section area

Ay

Shear rigidity factor - Reduced sectional area for calculations of shear deformations (for calculations of shear deformations XY) in the Y axis direction.

Az

Shear rigidity factor - Reduced sectional area for calculations of shear deformations (for calculations of shear deformations XZ) in the Z axis direction.

Ix

Moment of inertia.

Iy

Moment of inertia about the Y axis.

Iz

Moment of inertia about the Z axis.

I omega

Sectional moment of inertia.

Wx

Section modulus for calculations of torsion stresses.

Wy

Shear area - Reduced extreme shear stress coefficient (Qy).

Wz

Shear area - Reduced extreme shear stress coefficient (Qz).

Wely, Welz

Elastic section moduli (You do not need to specify these moduli, because they are calculated automatically as the ratio of the moment of inertia to the distance from the most remote section fibers.)

Wply, Wplz

Plastic section moduli.

vy

Distance of the most remote fibers measured with respect to the local Z axis (distance at the positive side of the local Y axis). The value is required when specifying the value of normal stresses. (See the following image.)

vpy

Distance of the most remote fibers measured with respect to the local Z axis (distance at the negative side of the local Y axis). The value is required when specifying the value of normal stresses. (See the following image.)

vz

Distance of the most remote fibers measured with respect to the local Y axis (distance at the positive side of the local Z axis). The value is required when specifying the value of normal stresses. (See the following image.)

vpz

Distance of the most remote fibers measured with respect to the local Y axis (distance at the negative side of the local Z axis). The value is required when specifying the value of normal stresses. (See the following image.)
