USD for 3ds Max Release Notes

Download USD for Autodesk 3ds Max from your Autodesk account. See also: Install USD for 3ds Max.

To find the installer in your account:

Under the Products and Services tab, select 3ds Max.
Scroll to select your version of 3ds Max.
Under the Extensions tab, select View Details.

Important:

3ds Max USD 0.5 and MaxtoA 5.6.1 both use a version of USD that provides important security enhancements. It is recommended that you upgrade to these versions of 3ds Max USD and MaxtoA or higher. 3ds Max USD 0.5 is available for download from your Autodesk account and MaxtoA is available for download from the Arnold downloads page.

What's Supported

USD Stage Node is supported in 3ds Max. Use the reference process to reference USD files directly into 3ds Max.

This workflow enables the following:

Beginner users getting started with USD can contribute in USD pipelines by creating a USD stage reference.
Advanced users with existing pipelines can incorporate 3ds Max into an automated USD pipeline by:
- Access the referenced USD Stage using Python or C++, using the USD API reference and the MaxScript USD Documentation. In the MaxScript USD Documentation you can search for the cacheId entry/sample to get started working with a USD Stage.
- 3ds Max USD SDK now allows 3rd-party developers to extend the USD Exporter. The SDK package is available in a separate download from the Autodesk developer network.
