Open the image plane file by choosing File > Import > Canvas Image 
.
The animation image plane’s image file becomes an image layer in the canvas image plane.
Convert a canvas image plane to an animation image plane
Open the image plane file by choosing File > Import > Image Plane 
.
Alias first merges the background layer and all image layers (and shape layers) in the canvas image plane into a single image layer, and then saves the image as a separate file.
If you can't see the image plane, you need to turn off the construction plane setting by using Construction > Toggle Construction Plane. If a construction plane is set, axes will be labelled cp x, cp y and cp z in the view windows.
