The Select Drawing Border step of the Extraction Template wizard captures the data required to identify drawing borders.
The wizard requires you to select the drawing border in the current drawing so that it can determine the characteristics of the drawing border. This information is later saved to the extraction template. The BOM Extraction wizard uses this information to recognize drawing borders in the drawings it migrates.
Additionally, the wizard captures two more parameters. They are:
The wizard attempts to detect the scale used for the selected drawing border automatically. However, if the selected drawing border was not created using the AMTITLE command, the detected scale cannot be relied upon. The wizard hence gives you the ability to enter the scale by typing it in. Based on your input, the wizard performs a computation that is known as “normalizing”. The result of this computation is stored in the Extraction Template. The BOM Extraction wizard uses this information to calculate the drawing scale of the drawings it migrates.
Sets the allowance for small gaps and misalignments. This value is used across all steps of the wizard. The BOM Extraction wizard also uses this value to make allowances when it locates objects in the drawings it migrates.
For example, when you select the drawing border, the wizard expects to find a rectangular closed contour. Say that the drawing border contains a gap, and the extraction tolerance is set to 0.5 drawing units. If the gap is smaller than 0.5 drawing units, the wizard ignores the gap. If the gap is larger than 0.5 drawing units, the wizard cannot find a closed contour and hence reports that no drawing border was found.
