About Running the Extraction Template Wizard (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

The Extraction Template Wizard "trains" AutoCAD Mechanical toolset to analyze a drawing and recognize the objects critical to the BOM.

You use a drawing that is typical of the drawings to be migrated to "train" the wizard.

The Extraction Template Wizard first creates a copy of the typical drawing, which is referred to as a Reference Drawing. It then runs the AMSETUPDWG command on the Reference Drawing, using a drawing template you specify.

For typical assembly drawings, you "show" AutoCAD Mechanical toolset where the following objects are located.

For typical part drawings, you only "show" the following objects.

Once you locate the objects, the wizard extracts information (“referred to as “text objects” in the wizard) from them. You then map the extracted text objects to the corresponding component properties of the BOM.

Finally, the wizard produces a file that is known as an Extraction Template. This file contains the extraction and mapping rules. It also creates a “reference drawing”, by copying the current drawing to a specified name. It sets up the BOM of the reference drawing by importing the drafting standard from a specified drawing template. The BOM Migration wizard uses the extraction template and reference drawing to extract information and build the BOM, when it migrates files.

Note:

The Extraction Template wizard requires Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) version 6.0. If it is not installed on your computer, install it before you start the Extraction Template wizard.
